A man is accused of killing a coworker and injuring five others at an Ohio warehouse. Bruce Reginald Foster III, 28, was arrested hours after the shooting, which took place late at night at an industrial park in New Albany. Foster will appear in court Thursday morning for his arraignment, and police are investigating the motive behind the attack.
Police Chief Greg Jones stated that Foster had spoken with investigators, but he wasn’t fully cooperative. When officers responded to the shooting, they just missed Foster, who had left the scene in a rideshare vehicle. The police used drones and a dog to help search for him. While police believe there was some contact between Foster and a victim, they are still unsure of how involved that contact was.
Around 150 employees were inside the warehouse when the shooting occurred. Authorities say none of them reported any previous conflicts with Foster or issues at work. The police evacuated the workers to a nearby building for safety.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Dan Deville explained that Foster refused to surrender when they tried to arrest him in Columbus on Wednesday morning. He had to be subdued with a stun gun before being taken into custody. A 9mm handgun, which Foster legally bought in September, was recovered at the crime scene. However, he wasn’t carrying the gun when arrested.
Four victims from the shooting were taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital. Their conditions are not being shared with the public, but authorities are hoping for a quick recovery. The person who died in the shooting was found inside the building. All of the victims were coworkers, as the shooting occurred at a warehouse where products such as cosmetics and toiletries are made.
Police have said that Foster targeted people he worked with, though they still don’t fully understand the reason behind the attack. The company involved has not yet commented. New Albany is located about 15 miles northeast of downtown Columbus.
