In a tragic turn of events, a house party in Chicago’s southwest neighborhood of Chicago Lawn ended in gunfire on Monday afternoon, leaving eight people shot and three dead. It was a scene of chaos as people screamed and fled the house, trying to escape the sudden violence.
Police were called to the home around 2:10 p.m., where they found four men and four women, all between the ages of 20 and 35, had been shot. Among the victims, a 26-year-old man and two others lost their lives. A 27-year-old woman, who was shot in the head, is fighting for her life in critical condition. Another woman, just 24 years old, was hit six times and is in serious condition. Three others—a 31-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, and a 21-year-old woman—are recovering and are thankfully in good condition, according to the police.
Chief of Patrol Jon Hein spoke about the incident, explaining that the shooting happened during what he described as a “social gathering.” He also mentioned that this wasn’t the first time police had been called to the house. It seems the home is known for hosting parties, which a neighbor, El Towers, confirmed. Towers, who lives on the same block, described hearing at least ten gunshots before seeing people running from the house in panic.
As of Monday evening, the shooter—or possibly shooters—had not been caught, and their motive remains a mystery. Hein assured reporters that the police are determined to get to the bottom of this, promising, “We’re going to solve this crime and find the individuals responsible for this heinous, terrible incident.”
The Chicago Police Department has yet to share any new updates, but the investigation is ongoing. Residents of the Chicago Lawn neighborhood are left shaken, hoping for answers and an end to the violence that has disrupted their community.
