Two young men are facing serious charges in connection with the tragic shooting of a woman at a Cook Out restaurant in North Carolina. The incident, which took place late last month, has shaken the Durham community.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office announced that 23-year-old Alexander Kenyon Carlton Jr. and 19-year-old Calvin Jerade Spence Jr. have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Davicia Jean Ann Lee. A third man, 18-year-old Jamari Treyvon McKnight, has also been charged, but with a lesser offense of “going armed to the terror of the people.” This charge means he allegedly used a weapon to threaten or scare others.

The deadly shooting happened on the night of October 26, just after 10:30 p.m., at the Cook Out on South Miami Boulevard. Deputies responding to the scene found Lee had tragically lost her life. The sheriff’s office described the incident as an “isolated” case, explaining that it stemmed from a fight that escalated into gunfire.

On Thursday, detectives arrested Spence and Carlton, taking them to the Durham County Detention Center. Both men are being held without bond and face charges including carrying a concealed gun, felony conspiracy, and first-degree murder. McKnight, who was arrested the same evening by Morrisville police, is being held in the Wake County Detention Center on a misdemeanor charge related to his alleged role in the incident.

The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the events surrounding Lee’s death and is now handing over the case to the Durham County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
