A tragic house fire in suburban Naperville on Tuesday afternoon left one person dead and another injured. The fire broke out in a home on the 3500 block of Redwing Court around 3:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from firefighters.
The Naperville Fire Department received a call reporting that someone was trapped on the second floor of the burning home. When firefighters arrived, they found both floors of the house engulfed in flames, making rescue efforts extremely difficult.
Crews immediately worked to put out the fire using multiple hoses. However, they were unable to reach the second floor where the trapped person was located. The fire was so intense that it caused the interior staircase to collapse, leaving large holes in the upper floor. Flames were pouring out of every second-floor window, making it challenging for rescuers to reach the trapped individual using ladders from outside.
Due to the dangerous conditions, including the extreme cold and heavy flames, the fire department issued a box alarm, requesting extra help. Six additional firefighting vehicles arrived to assist in battling the blaze.
After more than an hour of intense firefighting, the flames were brought under control at 4:33 p.m. Firefighters then worked to fully extinguish any remaining fire.
Two people were inside the home when the fire broke out. Both were taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, one did not survive. The other person suffered injuries but survived the incident.
Thankfully, no firefighters were hurt while battling the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of how quickly house fires can spread and the importance of fire safety measures.
