In Phoenix, Arizona, a teenager is in custody, and police are still searching for others involved after a deadly shootout during a home break-in in the Laveen area. The incident happened on December 16 around 1:15 a.m. near 55th Avenue and Southern Avenue.
According to investigators, a group of people broke into a house in the middle of the night, and several of them were armed. Inside the home, one of the residents fought back, leading to a gun battle. During the chaos, one of the suspects, 28-year-old Carlos Pardo Espericueta, was hit. The rest of the group fled the scene, leaving Espericueta behind.
No one inside the home was seriously hurt during the break-in or the shootout. Espericueta was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away on December 27.
Detectives worked on the case and found evidence pointing to a possible suspect, 19-year-old Michael Valles. Valles later turned himself in to the authorities. Initially, he faced charges related to the break-in, but after Espericueta’s death, those charges were upgraded to first-degree murder.
The police are still working to identify and catch the remaining suspects involved in the break-in. The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to gather evidence and leads.
