A tragic shooting early Sunday morning in the quiet town of Manchester, Ohio, has left one man dead, according to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say the incident happened around 4:42 a.m. on East 7th Street, a peaceful residential area that was suddenly shaken by the sound of gunfire.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found 47-year-old James D. Land with fatal injuries. Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and described seeing a vehicle speeding away from the location. Authorities quickly identified the suspect as 43-year-old Jason Strain from Bowling Green, Kentucky.
As the investigation unfolded, Strain had already fled the area. Deputies believed he was headed back to Bowling Green, which led to a multi-agency effort to track him down. The Ohio State Highway Patrol used their traffic cameras to locate Strain’s vehicle later that morning at around 10:29 a.m.
Strain’s car was stopped by Bowling Green Police, who took him into custody without incident. He is now being held in the Warren County Jail, facing local charges as well as charges connected to the shooting in Adams County.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released details about what led to the shooting, leaving the community searching for answers. The small town of Manchester is left grappling with the loss of one of its own as the investigation continues.
