Teone Jones was the heart of her family. Her brothers, DeVante and Malik Wilson, described her as a strong and loving mother whose children meant everything to her.
But now, her family is facing an unimaginable tragedy.
On Thursday night, 33-year-old Teone Jones was stabbed to death in her home in the Grand Crossing neighborhood of Chicago. Her two sons, ages 8 and 11, were also critically injured in the attack.
A Horrific Night
Around 7 p.m., Jones was stabbed multiple times in her back and stomach at her home on South Eberhart Avenue. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
Her 8-year-old son was kidnapped after the attack, triggering an Amber Alert. Police later found him in another neighborhood, injured but alive. His 11-year-old brother was also discovered nearby, suffering from stab wounds. Both boys were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition but have since stabilized.
A suspect was arrested the next morning in Indiana. When police stopped him, he refused to exit his car and even threatened himself with a knife. Eventually, he was taken into custody and treated for minor injuries.
A Desperate Plea for Help
Cynthia Keel, a Chicago resident, was at home when she heard loud bangs at her door. When she opened it, she saw a boy covered in blood.
“I froze,” Keel said. “I didn’t know what I was going to see.”
The boy, later identified as Jones’ 11-year-old son, had fled after the attack, desperately searching for help. Keel, an associate pastor, comforted him until paramedics arrived.
“I just wanted him to survive,” she said.
Remembering Teone Jones
Jones was a hairdresser who had recently earned her cosmetology license. She had a passion for hair, makeup, and fashion. Her three sons, including her 3-year-old who was unharmed in the attack, were her world.
Her brothers described her children as smart, adventurous, and full of love.
Neighbors also spoke highly of Jones, saying she was always with her kids, taking them to school and looking after them.
Seeking Justice and Healing
The crime scene was heartbreaking. Blood stains marked the walls and sidewalks. The family is struggling to understand why this happened.
“I don’t know why anyone would do this to her,” Jones’ brother Darwin said. “She had no enemies.”
Keel believes this tragedy highlights the importance of seeking mental health support. “When things don’t go our way, we can’t just hurt people,” she said.
Despite the pain, the family and community are holding onto hope.
“They will get through this,” Keel said. “People care. People are praying for them.”
