A tragic car accident in the Dunning neighborhood of Chicago early Saturday morning left one person dead and two others injured, according to police.
The crash happened around 2:16 a.m. in the 4200 block of North Oak Park Avenue. Officers who were on patrol saw a gray sedan attempting to make a turn at high speed. The driver lost control, causing the car to crash into a utility pole.
The driver of the car, a 29-year-old man, survived the crash and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Authorities reported that he was in good condition. However, one of the passengers, a 29-year-old man, did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, an adult woman, suffered critical injuries. Emergency responders transported her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she is receiving medical care.
Chicago police stated that citations against the driver are pending as the investigation continues. The Major Accidents Unit is currently looking into the cause of the crash.
