December 4, 2024—In a harrowing early morning incident, a driver was airlifted to the hospital after a severe collision with a car hauler trailer left them trapped inside their vehicle in Southwest Miami-Dade.
Accident Details
Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a distress call reporting a car accident with entrapment at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Southwest 122nd Street. Upon arrival, first responders found an SUV with significant front-end damage wedged under a car hauler trailer, its left side roof impaled by the trailer, rendering the driver unable to escape.
Rescue Operation
Firefighters employed specialized equipment, including the Jaws of Life, to delicately extricate the driver. Despite sustaining facial lacerations, the individual remained alert, communicating with rescuers throughout the nearly hour-long operation. After successfully removing the SUV’s roof, the driver was freed, placed on a stretcher, and airlifted to a nearby hospital as a trauma alert.
Current Status
The driver’s current condition has not been disclosed. Authorities have yet to release details regarding the cause of the crash, which remains under active investigation. Krome Avenue is closed between Southwest 136th Street and 122nd Street as officials continue to process the scene.
