GARLAND, Texas – A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Garland after a hit-and-run driver struck two teenage siblings, killing 14-year-old Daisy Alcon Paredes and critically injuring her 16-year-old brother, Carlos Alcon Paredes. The shocking incident occurred last Saturday night when the siblings were walking home from a Chevron gas station near East Oates Drive and Miami Drive.
According to police, the driver, 30-year-old Stetson Ybarbo, was speeding when he hit the teenagers and multiple parked cars before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing the scene with his 8-year-old child. His girlfriend remained at the scene and was detained by authorities.
The case took an unexpected turn when Ybarbo’s own family turned him in. Court documents reveal that police found him at his mother’s house in Garland, thanks to tips from relatives. He now faces two felony charges: collision involving death and collision involving injury. He remains in the Dallas County jail.
Heartbreaking Vigil for Daisy
A tearful vigil was held Monday night to honor Daisy’s life, drawing family, friends, and community members. Loved ones remembered her as a bright and talented young girl with a promising future.
“Daisy was a star soccer player, a great friend, and an amazing sister,” said her grieving teammate, Giselle Garcia. “I talked to her every single day. Now, knowing I’ll never get to talk to her again, that’s what hurts the most.”
Daisy was just weeks away from celebrating her 15th birthday on March 29. Instead of planning a joyous celebration, her family is now mourning an unthinkable loss.
Community Demands Justice
The tragic accident has sparked outrage, with many calling for strict consequences for Ybarbo. Leticia Hernandez, who lives next door to him, expressed her anger.
“For him to hit them and just leave the scene—it’s awful,” she said. “I don’t want him to walk free.”
Carlos remains hospitalized in critical condition but is expected to recover. Meanwhile, the community continues to rally around the grieving family, demanding justice for Daisy.
