SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A daring warehouse burglary early Sunday morning led to a high-speed police chase and the arrest of three suspects, authorities confirmed.
At approximately 5:45 a.m., South Bend Police responded to an alarm at the Hilti Distribution Center on Olive Road. Upon arrival, officers spotted a U-Haul truck leaving the scene and began following it. The driver, instead of stopping, drove erratically, prompting police to initiate a pursuit.
The chase unfolded on U.S. 20, where the U-Haul ultimately crashed near Rosewood Road in Saint Joseph County. Immediately after the crash, three male occupants fled on foot, attempting to evade law enforcement.
With the assistance of the New Carlisle Police Department, officers apprehended all three suspects—26-year-old Marquell Strickland, 22-year-old Darvel Grady, and 22-year-old Areon Halloway.
Inside the abandoned U-Haul, authorities discovered stolen tools valued at over $61,000, all belonging to the Hilti Distribution Center.
The suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Saint Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges related to the burglary and attempted escape. They now await formal charging decisions from the Saint Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine if additional suspects were involved. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
