A 65-year-old woman lost her life after a fire broke out in an apartment early Sunday morning in Humboldt Park, located on the Northwest Side of Chicago.
The fire started shortly after 1 a.m. in an apartment building on the 1700 block of North Harding Avenue, according to Chicago police. Firefighters and emergency responders rushed to the scene to put out the flames and rescue anyone inside.
During their search, authorities found a woman on the first floor who was unresponsive and had suffered burns. She was quickly taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, doctors later pronounced her dead.
Thankfully, no other residents were injured, and no one had to leave their home due to the fire. Firefighters managed to control the situation and prevent further damage.
