A former jailer from Douglas County, Georgia, has been arrested for serious charges related to sexual misconduct.
Jayavierre Johnson, who is 34 years old, is facing three counts of sexual assault after being accused of having inappropriate relationships with inmates while he worked at the local jail.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office conducted an internal investigation, which led to Johnson’s firing and arrest on December 11.
The investigation found that he had engaged in sexual activity with inmates during their time in custody, a behavior that the Sheriff’s Office is not willing to tolerate.
Sheriff Tim Pounds made a strong statement about the situation, emphasizing that transparency and professionalism are key values for his office. He stated, “This kind of behavior will not be tolerated.
I want my employees and the public to know that we are committed to protecting the integrity of this office. I will not put up with any foolishness, and I expect the same level of accountability from everyone that works here.”
Jayavierre Johnson is set to appear in court for a bond hearing on Friday. As of now, he is being held in the Douglas County Jail. This incident has raised serious concerns about the conduct of those in positions of authority and the safety of inmates.
