Tucson, Arizona – A heartbreaking incident has left a Tucson community in shock after a woman lost her life to a pit bull mix she had been fostering for over a year.
The tragedy unfolded earlier this week at a home in the 6800 block of East Via Arroyo, near South Kolb Road and Interstate 10. According to local authorities, 61-year-old Tina Weger was attacked by the dog on Sunday. The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed her death on Friday, stating that the injuries she suffered from the attack were fatal. Her passing was ruled accidental.
The pit bull mix had been under Weger’s care as part of a fostering arrangement with a local rescue group. Following the incident, the dog was euthanized. Investigations into the attack are ongoing, led by the Tucson Police Department and the Pima Animal Care Center.
This isn’t the first time southern Arizona has seen such a tragedy in recent weeks. In December, another pit bull attack occurred in Sierra Vista, near North Carmichael Avenue and East Theater Drive. In that case, two pit bulls escaped from their yard and attacked a man walking his German shepherd. The situation escalated when the dogs turned on another man who tried to intervene.
A passerby, witnessing the chaos, stepped in with a rifle. One of the pit bulls charged at him before returning to attack the German shepherd. In an effort to protect the animals and people involved, the man fired at the attacking pit bull, killing it instantly.
Both incidents have left communities grappling with the dangers posed by aggressive dogs. The investigations continue as officials seek to understand what led to these tragic events and how they can be prevented in the future.
