The tragic deaths of 19-year-old twin brothers, Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis, have been ruled a murder-suicide by police, but their family strongly disagrees.
The brothers were found dead on Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia, on March 8 by hikers. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), both had gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation concluded that one brother killed the other before taking his own life. However, the family believes that is not the case.
Family Disputes the Investigation Findings
Their uncle, Rahim Brawner, told WXIA that the brothers had a close bond and would never hurt each other.
“They were inseparable and very protective of each other,” he said. “I’ve never even seen them have a fistfight before.”
Their aunt, Yasmine Brawner, also disagreed with the police ruling.
“They had a huge support system. We know them, and they would never do something like this. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers,” she said.
Unanswered Questions Surrounding Their Deaths
The family is even more confused because the twins had already bought plane tickets to visit friends in Boston. They were supposed to fly out on March 7, just one day before they were found dead.
Adding to the mystery, their bodies were discovered 90 miles away from their home, in an area they were completely unfamiliar with.
Another aunt, Samira Brawner, said the twins never went hiking and had never even heard of Bell Mountain before.
“How did they end up in the mountains?” she asked. “They don’t hike. They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. So how did they get there?”
Investigation Still Ongoing
On Sunday, the GBI provided an update, stating that autopsies have been completed, but the final results are still pending additional forensic tests. The investigation remains open.
This heartbreaking incident has left the family searching for answers and justice. They are hoping for a deeper investigation into what really happened to Qaadir and Naazir in those mountains.
