In Brevard County, Florida, a Goldendoodle puppy named Maui is on the mend after being shot, sparking outrage and questions among locals.
Deputies say they found Maui lying on a sidewalk after the incident. The man responsible for the shooting had already left but later called 911 to explain his actions. He claimed the dog had acted aggressively and lunged at him and his own pet.
“A dog came out of nowhere, rushed at me and my dog, and almost bit me, so I shot it,” the man told the dispatcher.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey defended the man, saying he acted out of fear for himself and his dog. However, Maui’s owner shared a different side of the story. She admitted that the playful puppy had slipped out of its leash and run toward the man but insisted Maui meant no harm. Unfortunately, she couldn’t regain control of the dog before the situation escalated.
Maui has since undergone surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, the case is still under investigation. Authorities are now turning the matter over to the State Attorney’s Office to decide whether charges should be filed.
For now, Maui’s story serves as a painful reminder of how quickly misunderstandings can lead to tragic outcomes.
