In a shocking and heartbreaking incident, Tyrone Anthony, a man with a troubling criminal history, was arrested after allegedly posing as an Amazon delivery driver and assaulting a man in his home. The attack occurred on January 11 in the 500 block of Price Street, Savannah, Georgia.
George ‘Dirk’ Hardison opened his door around 8:20 a.m., expecting a package, only to be violently assaulted by two men pretending to be Amazon employees. Hardison, a bartender at O’Connell’s Irish Pub, was left severely beaten by the attackers. His friend, Jamie Stroh, described the incident as heart-wrenching, noting the brutal nature of the attack, which lasted for eight minutes. “Dirk is going to deal with this for a long time,” Stroh said, reflecting on the toll the event has taken on Hardison’s life.
Tyrone Anthony, 27, was arrested on February 5, 2025, in connection to the assault. He faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and home invasion. Anthony has a long criminal history, with prior arrests for terroristic threats, drug charges, and parole violations. His affiliations with the 90s Baby Gangstas gang, also known as 9BG, further add to his criminal profile. Prosecutors argue that Anthony should never have been on the streets, as he was out on parole from a previous conviction when the assault occurred.
Court records reveal that Anthony was supposed to remain incarcerated for drug-related charges but was released, which prosecutors say led to the tragic home invasion. His lawyer was unaware of his release until the arrest. Chatham County prosecutors are now raising questions about the mismanagement of his parole and the lack of oversight, which allowed him to commit such a violent crime.
As Hardison continues to recover, his community has rallied around him. A benefit event has been organized in his honor, set for February 23, 2024, at Boomy’s in Savannah. The event aims to raise funds to support Hardison as he continues his recovery.
