Dashcam footage captures the dramatic conclusion of a high-speed chase on a Florida highway, where state troopers managed to stop a fleeing suspect in a chaotic series of events.
The video shows a BMW, driven by 52-year-old Jovontae Danard Henderson, weaving dangerously behind a patrol car. The footage, taken from a trooper’s dashcam, reveals the intense moments as the suspect vehicle clipped the front of another patrol car behind it, causing both vehicles to crash. Despite the collision, Henderson’s BMW, though badly damaged, kept moving. However, troopers in front quickly boxed him in, ending the chase.
The incident took place in Hillsborough County, Florida. Henderson, now in custody at the Falkenberg Road Jail, is facing a long list of charges. These include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and driving with a canceled, suspended, or revoked license—his third offense. Additionally, he is being held on an out-of-county warrant tied to a fraud case.
The pursuit didn’t end without injuries. A trooper involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and received medical attention from paramedics at the scene. In a report, one trooper described how the chase escalated. After the initial collision, Henderson swerved hard to the left, striking the front right side of another patrol car and forcing it into a concrete barrier. This impact triggered the car’s airbags, leaving it disabled. Although Henderson’s BMW was also severely damaged, he attempted to keep fleeing before finally coming to a halt about half a mile from the original traffic stop attempt.
“I accelerated with the BMW and managed to conduct a second rolling roadblock,” the lead trooper recounted in his statement. “Despite efforts to escape, the BMW was eventually boxed in and immobilized.”
This high-stakes chase highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face on Florida’s highways while trying to keep communities safe. Thankfully, no major injuries were reported, and the suspect is now facing justice.
