SCOTTSBLUFF, Nebraska – A late-night police chase across multiple counties in the Nebraska Panhandle ended with a dramatic arrest Wednesday night.
The Nebraska State Patrol reported that it all started around 11:10 p.m. when they got a tip about a stolen Chevrolet Impala speeding east on Highway 92, just east of Gering. A trooper nearby spotted the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver hit the gas and took off.
The chase stretched along Highway 92 for about 20 minutes, with the driver swerving into the wrong lane several times, creating dangerous situations. As the pursuit neared Bridgeport, another trooper jumped into action, using stop sticks to slow the car down. While the stop sticks did their job, the driver kept going, causing more chaos in the city by hitting a parked car and several mailboxes before finally stopping near the intersection of 5th and P streets.
The driver, 32-year-old Jeremie Steen from Scottsbluff, was taken into custody without any further trouble. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, Steen now faces several serious charges, including stealing a vehicle worth $5,000 or more, trying to escape arrest, reckless driving, causing property damage of $5,000 or more, and driving without a license. He was also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia, having a small amount of marijuana, and several traffic violations.
Thankfully, no one was hurt during the chase. Steen was booked into the Scotts Bluff County Jail, and the investigation continues.
