A Texas man has admitted to his role in the tragic death of an eight-year-old girl who was forced to jump on a scorching-hot trampoline as a punishment. The man, Daniel Schwarz, 49, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. His wife, Ashley Schwarz, had already been sentenced to three life sentences for murder in 2022.
The heartbreaking incident happened in August 2020 in Odessa, Texas. Police responded to a medical emergency call and found Jaylin Schwarz unresponsive. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators discovered that Jaylin had been punished by Daniel and Ashley Schwarz, who were her adoptive parents and legal guardians. As part of the punishment, she was forced to jump on a trampoline without stopping, under the blazing sun, with no food or water. The temperature of the trampoline’s surface was 110 degrees Fahrenheit, making it extremely dangerous.
Authorities later confirmed that Jaylin died from severe dehydration, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Following a detailed investigation, police charged both Daniel and Ashley Schwarz with capital murder. Ashley was convicted and given three life sentences in prison, while Daniel has now accepted responsibility for his role and will serve 18 years behind bars.
The Ector County District Attorney’s Office praised the hard work of prosecutors and law enforcement in seeking justice for Jaylin. Their statement highlighted the cruelty of the punishment and the extreme conditions the little girl endured before her death.
This devastating case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from abuse. Authorities continue to urge people to report any signs of neglect or mistreatment to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
