An Idaho man has admitted to killing his pregnant wife and their infant son after he was found naked near the child’s body on a snowy roadside.
Jeremy Best, 50, pleaded guilty on February 13, 2025, to first-degree murder for the death of his son, Zeke Best, and second-degree murder for the death of his wife, Kali Randall Best, and their unborn child, Freya. Prosecutors from Teton and Bonneville Counties announced the plea in a joint statement.
The tragic events began on November 30, 2023, when the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a naked man wandering through the Swan Valley General Store in Swan Lake, Idaho. Deputies arrived and identified the man as Jeremy Best. He was taken to a hospital for medical and mental health evaluations before being released.
Later that night, a 911 call from the couple’s home in Victor led authorities to another disturbing discovery. The dispatcher heard a woman’s voice saying, “Jeremy, no, Jeremy, no,” followed by a man shouting, “Get back, you’re going to get shot!” and “I love you, love you, love you.”
When deputies arrived at the home, they found 39-year-old Kali Randall Best with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Their infant son, Zeke, was missing, leading authorities to issue an Amber Alert. Jeremy Best was named a suspect in his wife’s murder.
Two days later, a group of hunters near Idaho Falls spotted a man in a sleeping bag by the roadside. They recognized him as the wanted suspect and called 911. When authorities arrived, they found Best and his black Chevy SUV parked nearby. Tragically, they also discovered the lifeless body of Zeke Best, who had suffered fatal injuries.
Best’s attorney, Jim Archibald, stated that his client had experienced a severe mental health crisis, which led to the killings.
Best is set to be sentenced on July 23, 2025, and could spend the rest of his life in prison. As part of his plea deal, prosecutors agreed not to pursue the death penalty.
