A horrifying tragedy unfolded in Newbury Park, California, where a 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a 15-year-old boy with an ax.
It all began on the night of December 5, when Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Jeanee Court. There, they discovered the young boy had been severely injured in an assault. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, the teen was pronounced dead. Authorities later confirmed the boy had been a victim of homicidal violence, leading to an immediate investigation.
Captain Ken Truitt from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office shared some grim details. Investigators believe Zuberi Sharp, the man now in custody, used an ax to kill the teen. What makes this even more heartbreaking is that Sharp and the victim were likely related, although officials haven’t elaborated on the nature of their relationship.
The arrest itself was unusual and chilling. Sharp was found completely unclothed on the football field at Newbury Park High School. At the time, students were out practicing on the field when Sharp entered the campus. This alarming situation caused the school to go into a brief lockdown. Thankfully, deputies quickly took Sharp into custody without further incident.
Sharp is now facing a murder charge and remains in jail without bail. He’s scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on December 9. Meanwhile, the exact location of the crime hasn’t been revealed by the sheriff’s office.
Adding an unsettling layer to this case is a tragic family history. Zuberi Sharp’s father, Calvin Sharp, is currently serving a life sentence without parole for a brutal crime in 2007. Back then, Calvin was convicted of fatally stabbing 6-year-old Sev’n Molina with a meat cleaver. He’s been imprisoned at California State Prison in Sacramento ever since.
This case has shaken the Newbury Park community to its core, leaving many grappling with the devastating loss of a young life and the disturbing details surrounding the suspect’s background.
