An Indiana man is in serious trouble after police say he punched and threatened a 14-year-old boy who was riding a dirt bike in his neighborhood.
The man, 45-year-old Jason Harrell, was arrested on January 25 after a video showed him yelling at the teen in a profanity-filled rant, saying the boy was riding his bike “on [his] g–damn street.” The situation got worse when Harrell got out of his van, walked up to the boy, and allegedly pushed and hit him.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, things started before the recording began. Court documents revealed that the boy had been riding his motorized dirt bike on the street when Harrell, driving a white van, pulled up beside him. The boy moved to the side of the road, but Harrell allegedly reached out of his window to push the boy off his bike.
Harrell then reportedly turned his van around, came back to where the boy was standing, and began shouting at him again. In the video, which the boy’s mother later shared online, Harrell can be seen parking his van, storming up to the teen, and yelling, “Get the f— off my street!” He then appears to push the boy to the ground and punch him while the boy is down.
The boy, scared and apologizing, tried to calm Harrell down, but the man kept yelling. At one point, Harrell even threatened him, saying, “I see you on this f—ing street again, I’m gonna f—ing kill you and your dad, you understand?”
When police questioned Harrell, he denied hitting the boy. However, the boy’s mother shared heartbreaking photos of her son after the incident, showing him with blood in his mouth and tears in his eyes. Harrell reportedly told police he was frustrated because the boy’s riding was “a habitual issue” that had been bothering the neighborhood.
Harrell is now facing legal consequences. He’s been charged with two misdemeanor counts of battery causing bodily injury and one felony count of intimidation. Court records show he posted a $500 bond but has been ordered not to contact the boy. He must also wear a GPS tracking device while awaiting his next court date on January 28.
The incident, which happened in Indianapolis, has sparked outrage, especially after the video circulated online, leaving many questioning how someone could react so violently to a child.
