A tragic story unfolded in Las Vegas earlier this week when a Nevada man called 911 on himself after allegedly shooting and killing his ex-wife’s girlfriend. The incident happened on January 3, and now 41-year-old Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen is facing serious charges, including murder.
Rodriguez-Guillen appeared in court and was denied bail after being arrested for the shooting. Police say he killed 40-year-old Adriana Herrera and also shot his ex-wife, who survived. According to authorities, Rodriguez-Guillen had been making threats against the couple for the past two months.
Here’s how it happened: On the day of the shooting, police received a 911 call from Rodriguez-Guillen himself. He stayed at the scene, a neighborhood in east Las Vegas, until officers arrived. When they got there, they found Herrera and Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife wounded in a nearby car. Herrera had been shot multiple times, including in the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife, who had a gunshot wound to her hip, was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover. She later identified Rodriguez-Guillen as the shooter.
At the hospital, Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife shared some details with investigators. She revealed that although they divorced in 2013, the two remained romantically involved while raising seven children together. About a year and a half ago, she began an on-again, off-again relationship with Herrera but would occasionally reconcile with Rodriguez-Guillen. Two months ago, she ended things with him for good, but he didn’t handle it well.
She told police that Rodriguez-Guillen had been threatening her and Herrera, even saying he would kill them and “send them to hell.”
On January 3, Rodriguez-Guillen allegedly followed the couple as they drove around the city. Herrera, who was driving, stopped her car in the middle of the street. Rodriguez-Guillen then pulled his vehicle in front of hers to block their path. He got out carrying a rifle and fired multiple shots into Herrera’s car, hitting her several times. When Herrera tried to confront him, he allegedly shot her in the face. His ex-wife told police she didn’t think he was aiming for her, only Herrera.
After the shooting, Rodriguez-Guillen reportedly took out a handgun and threatened to kill himself. But when he realized one of the bullets had hit his ex-wife, he lowered the gun, apologized, and called 911.
Rodriguez-Guillen refused to answer police questions without a lawyer. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. He now faces 13 felony charges, including open murder, attempted murder, and two counts of kidnapping. His next court appearance is set for February 19.
This heartbreaking story has left a community in shock and highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and unresolved conflicts.
