A Michigan man, Allen Sprague, 54, has been sentenced to 35 to 55 years in prison for a tragic and violent incident that occurred last year. Sprague used his truck to chase down and fatally hit his fiancée’s ex-boyfriend, 29-year-old Dylon Andras, after a heated confrontation outside his home. Prosecutors described the act as driven by jealousy and anger, calling it a “crime of passion.”
The case, which has been unfolding for over a year, finally came to a close when Sprague was sentenced by Isabella County Chief Judge Eric Janes. The charges included second-degree murder, felony assault, reckless driving causing death, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. The incident also involved an attempted murder charge for chasing another dirt biker who was with Andras at the time.
According to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on the morning of October 25, 2023, on West Stevenson Lake Road in Coldwater Township. Sprague reportedly drove his truck at speeds over 90 miles per hour to chase Andras and his friend, who had been revving their dirt bikes near Sprague’s home.
Sprague claimed he was provoked after “things” began hitting his house while Andras and his friend rode their bikes outside. He said he got into his truck to confront them, insisting the fatal crash happened when Andras turned in front of him, leaving him no time to stop. However, a witness at the trial contradicted this, stating that Sprague deliberately ran over Andras and his friend.
Prosecutors painted a chilling picture of the events, revealing that Sprague’s fiancée, who had previously been in a relationship with Andras, was in the truck during the deadly pursuit. Though Sprague tried to shift the blame onto her, claiming she was the one driving, jurors didn’t buy his story. It reportedly took them only two hours to convict him.
After the sentencing, Isabella County Prosecuting Attorney David Barberi expressed relief for Andras’s family. “This case has taken over a year to resolve,” he said. “I’m just glad the family can finally start to heal and feel some sense of justice.”
The tragedy has left the community grappling with the devastating consequences of jealousy and rage, as Andras’s family now works to find closure after such a senseless act.
