Rapper and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail as he awaits trial on federal sex trafficking charges. A judge ruled that keeping him behind bars is necessary to protect the community and prevent possible interference with the case.
Diddy’s legal team had proposed a $50 million bond, suggesting he could stay in a luxury apartment on New York’s Upper East Side. They even offered to hire private security to monitor him 24/7. Despite their efforts, District Judge Arun Subramanian wasn’t convinced.
In his decision, Judge Subramanian stated, “The evidence clearly shows that no amount of security or conditions can ensure the safety of others.” He also pointed to what he called “strong evidence” of Diddy’s violent tendencies and raised concerns about the risk of witness tampering if he were released.
Diddy has been in custody since his September arrest on charges that include sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transporting individuals for prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and has repeatedly tried to secure his release. Every attempt has been turned down.
Currently, the music mogul is being held in a detention center in Brooklyn, just across the East River from Manhattan.
Prosecutors accuse Diddy of using his business empire to hide what they describe as a disturbing pattern of abuse. They allege that he hosted events, referred to as “Freak Offs,” where women were subjected to days-long parties involving drugs like ketamine, ecstasy, and GHB. These substances, prosecutors claim, were used to control the victims and force compliance.
“These events were anything but harmless parties,” said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “They were designed to exploit and manipulate vulnerable women.”
Diddy, however, denies any wrongdoing. His lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, is standing firmly by him, saying, “We’re going to fight this case with everything we’ve got. Diddy’s confident the truth will prove his innocence.”
The trial is set for May 2025, and until then, Diddy will remain behind bars, facing what could be the fight of his life.
