Las Vegas Woman Accused of Freezing Roommate After Fatal Fentanyl Plot

Share news:

A shocking case has come to light in Las Vegas, where a woman is accused of killing her 68-year-old former roommate by allegedly “force-feeding” her fentanyl, a powerful synthetic drug. Prosecutors say the suspect, 37-year-old Daniel Roush, who also goes by Jazzlynn, then stuffed the victim’s body into a freezer, apparently intending to “take over her life.”

Clark County Deputy District Attorney James Puccinelli revealed chilling details about the case. According to him, Roush gave Monique Gilbertson, the victim, a large amount of fentanyl to end her life. Afterward, Roush allegedly planned to move into Gilbertson’s home and take over her belongings and lifestyle.

The tragic events unfolded in November 2024. Gilbertson, who had previously allowed Roush to stay with her for a while to help her get back on her feet, had recently asked Roush to leave. Roush, who had been living a transient lifestyle, was reportedly hired by Gilbertson to do handy work after the two met at a Home Depot. Despite being told to leave, Roush allegedly stayed on without permission.

Concerns arose on November 6 when the property manager where Gilbertson lived, on Tres Piedras Road, about eight miles east of the Las Vegas Strip, called for a welfare check. Attempts to contact Gilbertson had failed, and her car had been moved strangely while her dogs were barking unusually loudly. When officers arrived at the mobile home and got no response, they entered to investigate.

Inside the home, police found two individuals who couldn’t explain Gilbertson’s whereabouts. While searching the property, officers made a horrifying discovery: Gilbertson’s body had been folded up and stored in a freezer, where it appeared to have been for some time. Both individuals at the scene were detained.

For about two weeks, Roush allegedly continued living her life while Gilbertson’s body remained hidden in the freezer. In police interviews, Roush claimed she found Gilbertson dead after the older woman supposedly took drugs. Unsure of what to do, Roush admitted to putting Gilbertson’s body in the freezer until she could figure things out.

Prosecutors, however, tell a different story. They allege that Roush intentionally gave Gilbertson a lethal dose of fentanyl, causing her death. The toxicology report showed that Gilbertson had at least 400 nanograms of fentanyl per millimeter in her system—an amount 200 times higher than what can be fatal.

Adding to the evidence, Roush’s wife reportedly contacted authorities, saying she had seen Roush give Gilbertson what she believed was fentanyl-laced cocaine. Investigators later found powder at the home that tested positive for fentanyl and lidocaine.

Roush, who legally changed her name to Jazzlynn in 2022, now faces charges of second-degree murder and other related offenses. As the case unfolds, the chilling details of this alleged crime have left many in shock and disbelief.
