HOUSTON – A dramatic scene unfolded late Friday night in Spring Branch when a group of armed men tried to steal a woman’s car, turning the attempted carjacking into a chaotic shootout.
The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. at an apartment complex on Spenwick Drive near Hammerly Boulevard. According to Houston police, the woman had just arrived and was pulling into the complex when the group of armed men approached her, trying to take her car.
What happened next was nothing short of intense. The woman, determined to protect herself, exchanged gunfire with the attackers. During the chaos, the men found themselves stuck near the complex gate, unable to escape quickly.
As the situation escalated, a man, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, tried to step in and help. Unfortunately, one of the armed men shot him in the leg. The attackers used that moment of confusion to climb over the fence and escape before the police could arrive.
The man who tried to intervene was rushed to a hospital and is now reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators are still piecing together what happened and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area. They haven’t yet released a description of the suspects.
Police continue to urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward as they work to track down those responsible.
