Former Representative Liz Cheney had a sharp response to President-elect Trump after he slammed President Biden for awarding her and Representative Bennie Thompson the Presidential Citizens Medal this week.
“Donald, this is NOT the Soviet Union,” Cheney posted on social media. “You can’t change the truth, and you cannot silence us.”
Cheney, who served as the vice chair on the special House committee investigating the January 6 Capitol attack, was honored for her dedication to the truth and her seven years in Congress. Thompson, who chaired the same committee, also received praise from President Biden for his lifelong commitment to safeguarding the Constitution.
But Trump wasn’t happy about it. On Truth Social, he accused Biden of giving out “fake medals” and called Cheney “corrupt.” He claimed Biden’s move was only because Cheney “hated Trump.”
Cheney, who has long been a vocal critic of the former president, quickly fired back. She reminded Trump of all his claims about election fraud, which were never proven.
“Remember all your lies about the voting machines, the election workers, your endless fraud claims that didn’t hold up?” Cheney posted. “Your lawyers have been sanctioned, and courts ruled against you. Even your own aides testified against you.”
She didn’t stop there. Cheney also brought up how Trump tried to pressure former Vice President Mike Pence into refusing to certify the 2020 election results—something Pence stood firm against.
“Remember how your own Vice President stopped you from overturning our Republic?” Cheney asked.
“We remember,” she added. “And now, as you try for a comeback, the American people must reject your falsehoods and protect the country we all love.”
It’s clear Cheney isn’t backing down, and she’s ready to stand up for the truth, no matter who’s calling her out.
