A California woman has been sentenced for a tragic and shocking crime that unfolded in 2021. Jessica Quintanilla, a 24-year-old, will serve 25 years to life in prison for shooting and killing 19-year-old Leilani Marie Beauchamp. The incident happened in Fairfield, California, at the home of Quintanilla’s ex, an Air Force airman. Her brother, 30-year-old Marco Quintanilla, was also involved and received a four-year sentence for being an accessory. Both were found guilty in November.

The tragic events began on October 30, 2021. Leilani had attended a Halloween party in Sacramento and left with two Air Force airmen who lived in Fairfield. She ended up at the airman’s home, where she was later killed. According to reports, Jessica Quintanilla walked in, saw Leilani in bed with her ex, and shot her. At some point after the incident, Jessica reportedly told her brother, “We killed someone.” He later testified, saying he initially thought she was joking.

When Leilani was reported missing, police started investigating. They found evidence of the murder at the Fairfield home and arrested Jessica, her brother Marco, and one of the airmen. It was the airman who eventually led police to Leilani’s body, which had been dumped in Salinas, more than 130 miles away from where she was killed. The airman was granted immunity in exchange for his testimony, during which he revealed that Jessica had threatened to kill him if he said anything.

Jessica later claimed that the shooting was an accident. She said she was upset, hungover, and that her ex had the gun, which “went off” during a confrontation. Her lawyer, William Alan Welch, described the situation as a “heat of passion” act.

Prosecutors, however, saw things differently, and the court found Jessica guilty. Meanwhile, Leilani’s family has been left heartbroken by the loss of their beloved daughter and sister. In a heartfelt statement, they described her as a blessing who brought love, laughter, and a strong sense of care to everyone around her.

The case, which initially seemed like it could involve a love triangle, shocked the local community. While the trial has brought some closure, the grief of Leilani’s family remains immeasurable.
