An Illinois pre-kindergarten teacher has found herself in serious trouble after being accused of injuring a 3-year-old student. Authorities say 44-year-old Lisa Jacobs allegedly picked up the young child and dropped her from about five feet off the ground.
Jacobs, who was teaching at St. Ambrose Catholic School in Godfrey, Illinois, is now facing a charge of aggravated battery. According to court documents filed on December 6, the incident led to an immediate investigation by the school and law enforcement.
The school’s pastor, Fr. Steven Janoski, shared in a letter to families that the situation was handled swiftly. After the alleged incident came to light on December 3, Jacobs was placed on administrative leave. She resigned the very next day. The case was then handed over to the Department of Children and Family Services and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.
“Our children’s safety is always our top priority,” Fr. Janoski assured families in his letter.
Prosecutors have claimed that this isn’t the first time Jacobs displayed concerning behavior, alleging past threats or physical abuse involving the same child. Details about those allegations have not been disclosed.
Jacobs was released from custody after being charged but faces strict conditions. She is forbidden from contacting the child involved, working with any children other than her own, or owning a firearm.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 13, but it’s unclear if she has entered a plea. Efforts to reach her legal representation for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
