Majority Whip Emmer Vows to Implement the Trump Agenda

House Majority Whip, Rep. Tom Emmer, a Republican from Minnesota, has big plans for the future — and they all revolve around President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda. Despite the GOP’s slim majority in the House, Emmer is determined to get things done.

“We’re going to make sure the Trump agenda becomes a reality,” Emmer shared during a chat on ABC News’ This Week. “The public gave Trump a mandate on November 5. They want us to tackle the issues that matter: controlling excessive spending, curbing the debt, and fixing the inflation mess we saw when Biden took office. People also want Trump to secure the southern border and bring peace and stability to the world.”

Trump has envisioned his priorities coming together in a single, sweeping bill. This would include tax cuts and securing the border, but such a massive proposal might face challenges, especially with the more budget-conscious members in Congress. Emmer is open to any strategy, whether it’s one big bill or a few smaller ones.

“As long as we know what we’re doing, it doesn’t matter to me,” Emmer said with confidence. “My job is to make sure we get things done, no matter how many bills it takes. I love when people say we can’t do something. We’ve already proven them wrong before. Even when we didn’t control the White House or Senate, we still achieved things that Republicans hadn’t been able to do for years.”

On the topic of the debt ceiling, which Trump has pushed to raise or even eliminate, Emmer suggested that with the right approach, some GOP hardliners could be swayed. “The debt ceiling is just a number. What really matters is getting our spending under control and having a solid plan to pay off the debt. As long as we’re focused on that, House Republicans can do great things.”

When asked about emergency funding for California’s wildfires, Emmer acknowledged the situation was still unfolding. “We don’t know the full extent of what’s needed yet, but we do know it’s significant,” Emmer explained. “Just before we left in December, Congress passed the American Relief Act, which set aside billions for FEMA. That’s already helping in cases like the current disaster in LA.”

Emmer’s relationship with Trump has been questioned in the past, especially after Trump criticized him when he was being considered for House Speaker. But Emmer made it clear that all is well now. “The president has been great to me, and to my wife. He’s worked hard to campaign in Minnesota, and we’ve got some exciting work ahead. It’s all about getting Trump’s agenda in motion, and my job is to make that happen.”

With his unwavering dedication to the cause, Emmer is ready to push forward and help make Trump’s vision a reality.
