In Mobile, Alabama, a 21-year-old man has found himself back in jail after being accused of groping a woman in Midtown early Sunday morning. According to the Mobile Police Department, the incident happened on Upham Street when a woman was walking and noticed a man following her.
At first, it was just footsteps behind her, but things quickly escalated when the man allegedly groped her. Despite the alarming situation, the woman managed to keep walking, creating some distance while calling 911 for help. Officers responded quickly, and thanks to the victim’s detailed description, they were able to identify and locate the suspect not long after.
However, the situation didn’t end there. When police began questioning the man, he made a run for it. Officers didn’t let him get far and caught him shortly afterward. The suspect was identified as Carlos Broadnax, a 21-year-old with a criminal history.
Broadnax is now facing multiple charges, including harassment, attempting to flee from officers, probation violation, and giving false information to police. His run-ins with the law aren’t new. Records show his arrests in Mobile County date back to 2021. More recently, in October 2023, he was charged with burglary and domestic violence, leading to 10 months in Metro Jail.
He was released in August 2024 and was granted youthful offender status after pleading guilty. This status came with a suspended 36-month prison sentence, meaning he could avoid serving time if he maintained good behavior. Now, with these latest accusations, that agreement could be in jeopardy.
Broadnax is set to appear in court on Friday, January 31, to face the new charges against him.
