A man named Renard Sullivan is struggling to move on after a terrifying incident in Southwest Atlanta. Early Monday morning, just before sunrise, Renard was on his way to work when he was attacked near Hiawassee Drive. Two masked men in a car ambushed him, demanding his electric bike and backpack.
“They pulled up behind me and just started yelling, ‘Stop. Give me everything you have,’” Renard recounted. What happened next left him shaken—one of the men shot him in the leg after taking his belongings.
“It all happened so fast. I looked down and realized I’d been shot. I called 911 right away,” he said.
Renard explained that this wasn’t just a random route for him; it was the path he always took to work. “I don’t bother anyone. I just go to work and handle my business,” he shared. He works at a gas station in the area and used his electric bike as his primary way to get around.
To make things worse, this isn’t the first time Renard has faced danger. A few months ago, someone else tried to steal his electric bike, but luckily, his son stepped in to stop it.
Now, with a bullet wound and his main mode of transportation gone, Renard is having a hard time sleeping. “I keep having nightmares. I don’t know what to do next,” he admitted.
His family is doing their best to support him. They’ve even set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Renard recover and get back on his feet.
As for the robbers, Atlanta police are still searching for them. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been named yet. Renard just wants justice. “They need to be off the streets, so they don’t hurt anyone else,” he said.
The incident has left his family and community shaken, but they’re rallying together to help Renard move forward from this traumatic experience.
