In Norcross, Georgia, a tense moment unfolded on Friday night, ending with a man being hospitalized after a confrontation with a police officer.
It all started around 9 p.m. when Gwinnett County police officers were patrolling a parking lot near Dawson Boulevard and McDonough Drive. They were keeping an eye out for anything suspicious when one officer spotted a man who caught his attention. The officer stepped out of his car to talk to the man, but instead of sticking around, the man took off running.
The chase led to a dramatic moment in the street. The man tripped and fell, and as he hit the ground, a handgun fell from his grasp. The officer, hot on his heels, told the man to leave the gun where it was. But instead of listening, the man picked it up. That’s when the officer fired his weapon, hitting the man at least once in the hand.
Police say the officer fired multiple shots, but they aren’t sure if the man was hit more than once. Despite his injury, the man kept running for a short distance before finally giving up and surrendering to the officers.
He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries. Police are still figuring out what charges he might face, and for now, they’re keeping his identity under wraps.
This story is still unfolding, and more details will be shared as they come in. Stay tuned!
