In a tragic story that’s shaken communities, a young man from Connecticut has been arrested in Puerto Rico after allegedly killing a four-month-old baby and the baby’s 20-year-old mother in a horrifying incident.
The suspect, 23-year-old Lance Morales from Waterbury, Connecticut, has been on the run since a violent confrontation earlier this week. It happened in Hartford, where things turned deadly after gunfire erupted. Police say Morales shot and killed the young mother, who was from Springfield, Massachusetts, along with her infant child.
As if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough, a third person was also hurt during the chaos. Authorities haven’t shared updates on that person’s condition yet, but the news has left everyone shaken.
Morales didn’t stick around after the violence. Investigators quickly identified him as the suspect and issued an arrest warrant. While police searched for him, Morales fled to Puerto Rico, hoping to escape justice. But law enforcement wasn’t about to give up. The Hartford Police teamed up with U.S. Marshals from both Connecticut and Massachusetts, tracking Morales down to a house in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, on Saturday.
The acting U.S. Marshal for Connecticut, Lawrence Bobnick, praised the team’s relentless efforts, saying, “Investigators worked day and night to make sure this suspect was brought to justice.”
Now, Morales faces serious charges, including two counts of murder, first-degree assault, and other crimes related to the horrifying act. Authorities are also working on extraditing him back to Connecticut to face these charges in court.
For now, the names of the mother and baby haven’t been released. This devastating story has left many people grieving and questioning how such a senseless act of violence could happen.
