Masked Gang Attacks Home of Conor McGregor Accuser Following Civil Case

Share news:

A Dublin court has revealed that a gang of masked men broke into the home of Nikita Hand, the woman who won a civil case against mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor for assault. The revelation, which had been withheld during legal proceedings, emerged after the high court of Ireland awarded Hand nearly €250,000 (£208,000) in damages.

The Incident

On 14 June, masked men invaded Hand’s home, smashing windows and stabbing her boyfriend during the attack. Hand, who had accused McGregor of raping her in December 2018, was not physically harmed, but the incident left her deeply shaken.

Her lawyer, John Gordon, explained to the court that the home invasion was not a random act.

“The plaintiff’s home was invaded by a group of men wearing balaclavas,” Gordon said. “Her partner suffered a stab wound, and her daughter was asleep in the next room.”

Gordon emphasized that the attackers were not directly linked to McGregor but suggested the attack stemmed from Hand’s legal action against the MMA star.

Court Proceedings and High-Profile Case

On Friday, the jury found McGregor guilty of assaulting Hand in December 2018 but did not support claims of aggravated or exemplary damages. McGregor denied the allegations, claiming Hand’s accusations were fabricated to conceal infidelity.

McGregor’s barrister, Remy Farrell, argued that the burglary incident had no relevance to the case and could bias the jury. Judge Owens agreed, ruling it “completely irrelevant.”

McGregor announced his intention to appeal the decision, calling the damages “modest” and reiterating his disappointment that not all evidence was presented to the jury.

Garda Investigation Underway

The Garda, Ireland’s national police force, confirmed they are investigating the aggravated burglary. A spokesperson said a man received hospital treatment for non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, and inquiries remain ongoing.

Legal and Social Implications

The high court ruling has reignited discussions about consent and justice in sexual assault cases. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre described the case as pivotal in clarifying the legal definition of consent.

Judge Owens told the jury that “submission is not consent”, emphasizing that risky behavior, drinking, or drug use does not imply consent.

McGregor’s Denial and Legal Battles

McGregor has consistently denied Hand’s claims, stating that their interaction at the Beacon Hotel in December 2018 was consensual. In 2020, Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) chose not to pursue criminal charges due to insufficient evidence for a reasonable prospect of conviction.

Despite the civil court ruling, McGregor remains firm in his defense, stating:

“I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide.”
