A man from Prospect Heights is facing federal charges for trafficking guns and drugs, including fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Efrain Jacobo, 42, was caught after meeting several times with undercover law enforcement officers in Joliet since last October. According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court, he sold them one pound of meth, 29 grams of cocaine, and seven firearms during these meetings.
As part of the investigation, federal agents stopped a drug shipment from Texas to a storage facility in Bolingbrook. When they searched the shipment, they discovered at least 160 kilograms of meth hidden inside pallets of landscaping bricks, court documents revealed.
Authorities also say that Jacobo admitted to owning a storage unit in Wheeling, a north suburban area. A search of this unit led to the seizure of at least 400 grams of fentanyl and cocaine, as stated in court records.
During the investigation, Jacobo allegedly sold a semi-automatic rifle, six handguns, and ammunition.
He was charged with six felonies—one for selling firearms and five for selling or distributing drugs. Jacobo pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Wednesday.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 5.
