A late-night incident in Miami Lakes turned dangerous when a man, reportedly drunk, started taking photos and videos of parked cars at a shopping plaza, leading to gunfire. The tense situation unfolded around 3 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of a shopping center located at 15544 NW 77th Court.
According to Miami-Dade police, 47-year-old Danny Casavilla-Garcia was seen using his phone to snap pictures of parked vehicles. This didn’t sit well with two men, Cedeno Alvarado and Angulo Moreno, who were nearby. They approached Casavilla-Garcia and asked him to stay away from their cars. What started as a verbal confrontation quickly escalated when Casavilla-Garcia pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Alvarado, who was standing near his car, was hit in the pelvis. He managed to run to a nearby Shell gas station for help. Meanwhile, Moreno, who was sitting inside his vehicle, narrowly avoided injury. However, a bullet shattered his driver-side window and struck his car’s rear passenger door and window.
Both men called 911, seeking assistance. Police responding to the scene found Alvarado hiding inside the convenience store at the Shell gas station. Moreno, who had initially fled, returned to search for Alvarado.
As for Casavilla-Garcia, he also called 911, informing authorities of his location behind a nearby business. When officers arrived, they detained him at gunpoint and recovered a handgun from his back pocket.
Casavilla-Garcia is now facing serious charges. He’s being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond after a judge denied his release. He’s been charged with two counts of attempted murder with a firearm.
What began as a strange situation involving photos of parked cars ended in violence, leaving one man injured and another facing the weight of the law.
