A shocking crime in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has led to serious charges against a 25-year-old woman named Ashanti Davis. Authorities say Davis plotted to have her ex-boyfriend, Bernell Hall, killed in what appeared to be a random robbery. However, investigators believe the whole thing was staged.
The tragic incident happened on November 1, behind a building in Milwaukee. Davis and Hall were sitting in a car when two masked men ambushed them, demanding they hand over their belongings. While Davis ran away, Hall was shot and killed. He was just 29 years old and a father of three.
Initially, Davis told police she heard a gunshot as she fled the scene, but evidence started pointing in a darker direction. According to prosecutors, Davis had been in contact with a man in jail before the murder, and together, they allegedly planned Hall’s death. This man, whose name hasn’t been made public, was someone Davis was reportedly dating at the time.
Investigators reviewed recorded phone calls between Davis and the inmate, and the conversations were chilling. On October 28, Davis reportedly said something that prosecutors believe referred to the plan: “Baby daddy, boom, pop, boom.” The next day, she allegedly mentioned, “I got a cat to kill the rat,” hinting at the setup. She even acknowledged speaking in riddles because she knew the calls were being recorded. On October 31, just hours before the murder, she allegedly hinted it was about to happen, saying, “It’s going to happen real soon.”
After Hall was killed early on November 1, Davis reportedly called the inmate and said, “They killed him,” adding, “People think I had something to do with it.” Hall’s mother, Nicole Hall, said she wasn’t surprised the truth came out. “I knew she would end up getting caught because she doesn’t know how to stop talking. I knew she would incriminate herself,” she told media.
Davis was arrested on December 31, nearly two months after the murder. She has been charged with solicitation of first-degree homicide and is currently being held on a $100,000 bond. Her first court appearance was on January 4, and a preliminary hearing is set for January 10.
This heartbreaking case has left many in the Milwaukee community shaken, especially Hall’s family, who are now grieving the loss of a young father.
