It’s official! Norah O’Donnell will be stepping down from her role as anchor of CBS Evening News, and her final night on air will now be on January 23, 2025. Originally scheduled for January 24, the date was pushed up due to CBS Sports’ coverage of the Farmers Insurance Open. But don’t worry, her last show will still be a full national broadcast—meaning we’ll all get one last chance to say goodbye to her as the face of CBS Evening News.
Norah, who announced her exit back in July, had initially planned for her final broadcast on January 24. However, with the PGA event taking over the usual timeslot, the date change ensures Norah gets the send-off she deserves, nationwide.
Starting January 27, we’ll see John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois take over as the new lead anchors. With that, CBS Evening News is also returning to New York after five years in Washington, D.C., marking a big shift for the iconic broadcast.
Norah’s departure is part of a larger overhaul at CBS News. The network is introducing exciting changes, including more 60 Minutes content and a fresh, dynamic team of correspondents, each ready to bring you breaking news as it happens. Margaret Brennan will also lead the coverage from D.C., and Lonnie Quinn will continue to bring us all the weather updates.
This transition follows the recent leadership shake-up at CBS News, with Adrienne Roark and Jennifer Mitchell stepping into expanded roles. Roark, who now leads editorial and newsgathering efforts, will be crucial in driving CBS’s news coverage into a new era.
As for Norah, her journey at CBS News began back in 2019, and she’s certainly left her mark on the network. From anchoring CBS This Morning to becoming Chief White House Correspondent, her career has been one of significant milestones. In a heartfelt memo to her team when she announced her departure, she shared, “It’s time to do something different.” Though she’s stepping away from the anchor desk, Norah will remain part of the CBS News family, continuing her legendary storytelling and interviews with programs like 60 Minutes.
