ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Three teenage boys are now facing charges in connection to a deadly shooting that occurred four months ago in Alexandria, Virginia. The shooting left one man dead and two others injured, including a 15-year-old boy.
On September 19, 2024, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1300 block of Wythe Street, near the Braddock Metro station, just before 8:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Kwakia Frazier, 25, of Alexandria, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a press conference on January 27, 2025, Alexandria Chief of Police Tarrick McGuire announced that the three suspects, aged 16 and 17, are accused of using stolen firearms in the shooting. The two other victims were a 46-year-old bystander and a 15-year-old boy.
Frazier’s mother, Nichole Frazier, expressed relief that the suspects had been identified, stating, “It’s ridiculous that this even happened. I’m not saying my son was perfect, but he didn’t go around harming anybody.” Tragically, Nichole Frazier had lost another son, Tyvez Monroe, to gun violence just nine months earlier.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but police called the incident “deliberate.” The suspects allegedly walked up to the scene and opened fire. The guns used in the crime were stolen and may be linked to other shootings in surrounding areas. Ballistics evidence helped police connect the teens to the crime.
The teens, who have been charged with Murder by Mob, Malicious Wounding by Mob (x2), and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (3x), are being held in custody in other jurisdictions. Their identities have not been released due to their age.
Chief McGuire emphasized the department’s commitment to reducing gun violence, noting that almost 200 firearms have been seized from the streets in the past two years. “There’s no place for gun violence in our community,” he stated.
