NYPD Officers Injured in Queens Collision Amid Robbery Suspect Pursuit

December 4, 2024—Two New York Police Department officers sustained injuries early Wednesday morning during a vehicular collision in Queens while actively pursuing suspects involved in a robbery. The incident underscores the inherent risks law enforcement officers face daily in their commitment to public safety.

At approximately 2 a.m., officers were responding to a reported robbery at a smoke shop located at Merrick Boulevard and 220th Street. During the pursuit of the suspects, their police cruiser collided with two civilian vehicles at the intersection of 120th Avenue and Springfield Boulevard in the Laurelton neighborhood.

Injuries and Medical Response

Both officers were promptly transported to Jamaica Hospital, where they are being treated for minor neck and back injuries. Three civilians from the other vehicles involved were taken to North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center. All individuals are reported to be in stable condition, and full recoveries are anticipated.

Ongoing Investigation

The suspects connected to the smoke shop robbery reportedly fled the scaul vehicle. Authorities have made arrests related to the case; however, the exact number of individuals apprehended and the potential for additional suspects remain undisclosed.
