In a shocking incident in Greenville, Ohio, a 48-year-old man, Matthew McKnight, has been arrested for allegedly killing another man using a samurai sword following a request for a cigarette. The altercation occurred on the evening of November 16 on Walnut Street.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Kyle Brown, approached McKnight to ask for a cigarette. According to witness Sheila Horne, speaking to WHIO-TV, McKnight responded by drawing a samurai sword and stabbing Brown. Horne also mentioned that Brown was homeless and typically stayed under a local bridge. She recounted her own frightening encounter with McKnight previously when she asked him for a cigarette and he pulled a knife on her, forcing her to flee.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene following the stabbing report and transported Brown to Miami Valley Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Greenville Police Department acted swiftly, locating McKnight near the scene of the crime and taking him into custody.
Brown and McKnight were reported to have known each other prior to the incident, adding a layer of complexity to the motive behind the attack. McKnight is currently being held at the Darke County Jail as the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office reviews the case to decide on the formal charges.
