A family in Clark County is feeling shaken and violated after making a disturbing discovery in their home. They found a hidden camera in the bathroom used by their 13-year-old relative, leaving them horrified.
Jennifer Chavez, who lives in the apartment, noticed something unusual near the shower—a thin cord she thought was harmless. But when she looked closer, she realized it wasn’t a cord at all. “It turned out to be a camera with a USB on the end,” Jennifer said, still clearly upset.
The shocking discovery led to police uncovering a chilling explanation. Investigators traced the camera back to the apartment upstairs, where 50-year-old Benny Vires lived. They say Vires had drilled holes in his floor and used a small camera, called a borescope, to spy on the bathroom below. He’s now in jail, facing charges of video voyeurism and resisting arrest.
Jennifer showed where the patched holes remain on her ceiling, right above the shower. “It’s terrible,” she said. “You shouldn’t have to check the ceiling or feel scared just to take a shower.”
Police also found a drill in Vires’ apartment, making the situation even more unsettling. Vires reportedly told officers he didn’t see anyone while recording, but that hasn’t eased the family’s anger or pain.
His bond has been set at $7,500, which Jennifer believes is far too low for what he’s accused of doing. “This wasn’t just an invasion of privacy. It’s much deeper than that,” she said.
The hardest part for Jennifer has been watching the impact on her young cousin. “She’s only 13, and this has shattered her sense of safety,” Jennifer shared. “She used to enjoy her privacy—listening to music, texting friends, making TikToks. Now, she just stays in bed, barely talking.”
Benny Vires is set to appear in court on December 4, but for Jennifer and her family, the emotional scars left behind may take much longer to heal.
