A 45-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by a 16-year-old during a violent incident in East Garfield Park on Wednesday night, according to Chicago police.
The situation unfolded around 8:50 p.m. inside a home on West Huron Street, where officers were called about an ongoing assault. When they arrived, they learned the man had been physically attacking a 40-year-old woman inside the house.
The assault came to a sudden stop when a teenage boy, who was also in the home at the time, grabbed a gun and fired. The man was hit in the lower back.
Emergency responders rushed the man to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police have not shared further details about the boy or what led to the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.
