A cold front has moved into South Texas, causing a sharp drop in temperatures along with strong, gusty winds.
A wind advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, with wind gusts expected to reach between 40 and 45 mph.
Power outages are affecting several communities across the southern Coastal Bend. Reports have come in from Fulton, Mathis, San Diego, Premont, George West, Driscoll, Aransas Pass, Refugio, and Corpus Christi.
Crews are actively working to restore electricity, a process that may take several hours. If you are currently without power, you can check the status by going here.
AEP Texas reminds all customers to follow these important safety guidelines:
- Consider any downed power line to be energized and extremely dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with a power line, including trees, fences, or standing water. Because the storm may impact power lines, customers should keep children and pets indoors during and after the storm. Stay at least ten feet away from any downed power line at all times.
- Customers who rely on life-support systems or other medical equipment that requires electricity should ensure they have a backup plan in case of extended outages.
- If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Most generators must be placed outside the home and away from open windows to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
