Daisy Link, a 29-year-old inmate in Miami-Dade County, has been behind bars since 2022 on a second-degree murder charge. But somehow, despite the locked doors and high-security walls, Daisy became pregnant—by another inmate.

Her story, shared with local news outlet WSVN, is almost too incredible to believe. Daisy and 24-year-old Joan Depaz, held at the same correctional facility on separate murder charges, say they’ve never met face-to-face. Yet, they managed to have a baby together.

Daisy calls their child “a miracle baby,” while Joan says her conception was “like the Virgin Mary.” And how it all happened? Well, that’s the part that sounds like something straight out of a movie.

In prison, isolation can get lonely. Daisy and Joan started talking to each other through the vents in their cells. Hours of conversation turned into a deep connection. Joan shared a dream he thought would never come true. “I always really wanted to have a baby,” he told Daisy, “and if I had to choose somebody, it would be you.”

From there, they came up with a wild plan to make it happen. Joan thought, “This is gonna go down in history.”

Here’s how they pulled it off: Through the vent system, they figured out Daisy could drop something down to Joan, and he could send something back up to her. Joan got creative, putting his semen in Saran wrap. “Every day, like five times a day,” he said. He’d roll it up and attach it to a makeshift line, which Daisy would pull through her vent. Using a yeast infection applicator, Daisy did the rest.

After a few tries, it worked. Against all odds, Daisy became pregnant.

Doctors say it’s possible, though the chances are slim. But for Daisy and Joan, it felt like destiny. Their baby girl was born on June 19 and is now being cared for by Joan’s mother. Daisy says she’s amazed. “I can’t believe it worked. I think everything happened for a reason. She could be anything. I think she’s gonna be something great.”

The two parents, now in separate facilities, still stay connected. They talk on the phone and have video calls with their daughter, who has already brought a little light into their very dark circumstances.

Meanwhile, Miami-Dade Corrections has launched an internal investigation to figure out how this could have happened. For Daisy and Joan, their unbelievable story has already left everyone talking. As Daisy put it, “Everybody says it: ‘This is like some Lifetime Movie Network.’”
