Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is back in the headlines, heading to court for a trial that could cost him his Florida condo. This legal battle is the result of defaming Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, after the 2020 election.
Giuliani, who once worked as a lawyer for Donald Trump, made false claims about Freeman and Moss, accusing them of being part of an election conspiracy. Despite multiple debunkings of his story, Giuliani persisted with these accusations. This led to a jury awarding the women a whopping $148 million in damages for defamation.
Now, Giuliani is fighting to keep his Florida condo safe from creditors. He argues that it’s his permanent home, which could protect it under Florida’s homestead laws. But, as part of the legal proceedings, he’s been ordered to hand over various properties, including his New York City penthouse. The Florida condo is the latest piece of the puzzle.
Adding to the drama, Giuliani requested to keep his list of witnesses a secret. But U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman wasn’t having it. He ordered that the witness list be unsealed and available to the public, rejecting Giuliani’s request for privacy.
Some of the key people on the list include Monsignor Alan Placa, Giuliani’s long-time friend, and others who will testify about Giuliani’s move to Florida. It seems like this trial will be one to watch, and it’s far from over!
