A woman from Wisconsin found herself in serious trouble after allegedly setting her apartment on fire in what she claimed was a “satanic ritual.” The incident happened on December 21 in an apartment building on 75th Street in Milwaukee. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the story behind the fire has certainly raised some eyebrows.
The woman, 36-year-old Charmilia Jeffries, told authorities she started the fire to counteract what she called “witchcraft traps” in her home. According to the criminal complaint, Jeffries said she believed the traps were set up to target her and explained to investigators that this ritual was something “they do around these times.” She didn’t clarify who “they” were, but her explanation didn’t sit well with the law.
The situation escalated when Jeffries reportedly asked her son to remove the smoke detectors from their apartment, claiming they were “suspicious.” The complaint didn’t reveal her son’s name or age.
The fire was significant enough to bring both firefighters and police to the scene. When questioned, Jeffries repeated her claims about witchcraft and the ritual. Authorities didn’t see it as just a strange belief, though. Instead, she was arrested and charged with felony arson.
Jeffries is now in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail, with her bond set at $75,000. While no court date has been scheduled yet, the case has caught the attention of many, sparking discussions about mental health and the safety of those around her.
